Boys 2 Men

Boys 2 Men Mentoring provides community-based mentoring for boys at Peters Elementary in Grades 4 and 5 on their journey to manhood. Our mentoring program offers a comprehensive approach to personal and community development.

Through a combination of bi-weekly group mentoring sessions, your students receive tailored guidance to enhance various aspects of their lives. Boys 2 Men Mentoring goes beyond traditional mentorship by incorporating a health and wellness component, which promotes mental and physical well-being.

Boys 2 Men Mentoring also emphasizes career and education planning, empowering students to set and achieve their personal goals. Prominent and successful men throughout Broward County are invited as guest speaker throughout the school year to share their stories with the group.

This multifaceted initiative not only builds strong mentor-mentee relationships but also addresses the diverse needs of the community, fostering a culture of support, learning, and personal advancement.

American Sign Language

Sponsor: Mr. Nelson, Ms. Fialkin, Mr. Jenkins

Students and staff are welcome to learn basic American Sign Language (ASL) to help build a stronger, more inclusive community around the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) members on our campus. ASL is not only a valuable communication tool but also an excellent resource for visual learners. Participants will receive assignments and assessments to help reinforce their skills and track their progress.

Debate

Sponsor: Ms. Deborah Harper

Speech and Debate students learn research skills, logic, organization of ideas, manipulation of language, assessment of audience, self-esteem, and engagement in world events. These skills not only build better students, but they also build better college candidates, better employees, and better citizens. Students also complete in competitions against other Elementary student throughout the district.

Lady Pandas

The Lady Pandas Mentoring groups provides community-based mentoring for girls at Peters Elementary in Grades 4 and 5 on their journey to womanhood. Our mentoring program offers a comprehensive approach to personal and community development.

National Elementary Honor Society (N.E.H.S.)

Sponsor: Ms. Lissette Bolona

NEHS is designed for elementary students and includes two primary functions:

Recognizing the accomplishments of students -- the whole child, specifically the full range of a student's academic achievements and the ability to be a responsible student at school, at home, and in the community.
Involving students as members participating in the activities of the chapter; and involving all students through leadership development and service activities, enhancing the culture of achievement in the school.

Core Principles: Scholarship, Responsibility, Service, Leadership.

Scholarship means a commitment to learning. An NEHS member is willing to spend time in reading and study, knowing the lasting benefits of a cultivated mind. We all must continue to learn even when formal education has ended, whether at the end of the school day, the school year, or our educational career, for education ends only with the end of life. Knowledge is one great element in life which leads to the highest success, and it can be acquired in only one way--through diligence and effort. Learning furnishes the lamp by which we read the past, and the light that illuminates the future. Members of NEHS are challenged to continually expand their world through the opportunities inherent in scholarship.

Responsibility is our commitment to do what we say we are going to do. It is our obligation to do what is right when faced with the temptation of doing wrong. Responsibility is an expression of our concern for our family. We work in a responsible manner at school to achieve our academic goals. When playing sports we are responsible to the team by always competing with our best effort and displaying good sportsmanship. Our responsibility to our community is displayed through acts of good citizenship, respecting the laws, culture and traditions of our part of the world. NEHS members demonstrate responsibility at home, at school, and in the community and serve as role models for our peers. We accept these new responsibilities with pride.

Service: In our day-to-day lives, many opportunities arise to perform service, helping others to do what they cannot do alone. This willingness to work for the benefit of those in need, without monetary compensation or the expectation of reward, is the quality we seek in our members. We are committed to the idea of volunteering our time and abilities to the creation of a better tomorrow for us all.

Leadership: Our leadership as members of the National Elementary Honor Society should exert a positive influence on the school. A student leader takes the initiative in class and in school activities, striving to train and aid others to reach their goals. The price of our leadership is sacrifice--a willingness to yield our personal interests for the interest of others. A leader has self confidence and will go forward when others hesitate. Leadership is needed in many aspects of our lives; thus, to lead is another important challenge to each of our members.

SAVE Promise Club

Sponsor: Ms. Lissette Bolona

Students Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE) Promise Club is a student leadership initiative from Sandy Hook Promise that aims to cultivate and bolster student leaders to take an active role in increasing school safety and preventing different forms of violence in schools and communities. SAVE Promise Club members can show their creativity and passion for protecting their friends, schools, and communities from violence BEFORE it happens.

Spanish Club

Student Council

Sponsor: Ms. Heidi Brockman

The Student Council members are elected by their classmates, represent their class by offering ideas for school improvement, and promote school spirit. Members are from Grades 3, 4, and 5. Throughout the school year they are involved in community projects such as Harvest Drive, Toy Drive, Reading Book Drive, School Supply Drive, Pep Rallies, and much more. In addition, there is an election process where members from Grade 5 can campaign for the office of class President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasure. As leaders at Peters Elementary, students must demonstrate good character traits and maintain good grades.
